Summary of Scoring logic for predefined formulas for group factors
Group factors in assessments use predefined formulas to calculate scores based on the contributions of manual factors categorized as Qualitative, Quantitative, or Both. These formulas enable ServiceNow customers to aggregate and transform scores efficiently to reflect the combined impact of multiple factors within a group factor.

Key Features
- Formula Selection: Users can select from multiple predefined formulas to compute scores for group factors.
- Factor Contributions: Scores are derived from manual factors within the group factor that contribute qualitatively, quantitatively, or both.
- Qualitative Score Transformation: When the "Transform qualitative score" option is enabled, qualitative scores are adjusted using specified transformation criteria before applying the group factor's qualitative weighting.
- Qualitative Weighting: Post-transformation qualitative scores are multiplied by the qualitative weighting percentage of the group factor to determine the final score.
Predefined Formulas and Their Calculations
- Sum: Adds all qualitative or quantitative scores from the contributing manual factors.
- Minimum: Selects the lowest qualitative or quantitative score among contributing manual factors.
- Maximum: Selects the highest qualitative or quantitative score among contributing manual factors.
- Average: Calculates the mean of qualitative or quantitative scores from contributing manual factors.
- Product: Multiplies all qualitative or quantitative scores from contributing manual factors.
- Weighted Average: Divides the sum of qualitative scores by the sum of weights, considering the contributions of the manual factors.
Practical Impact
This scoring logic empowers ServiceNow customers to tailor how group factor scores are computed, ensuring that assessments accurately reflect the composition and weighting of multiple contributing factors. By selecting the appropriate formula and applying qualitative transformations and weightings, customers can derive meaningful and customized group scores that support decision-making and reporting within their assessment processes.
Group factors have multiple predefined formulae and each of them has a specific contribution to the scoring logic.
Predefined formulae scoring logic
Users can select one of the following predefined formulae to calculate the scoring for group factors. The scores are contributed by scores of manual factors that comprise a group factor and have factor contribution as Qualitative or Quantitative, or Both.
The qualitative scores calculated using the predefined formulae are transformed using the transformation criteria if the Transform qualitative score option is selected for the group factor.
The qualitative scores calculated after transformation will be derived using the Qualitative weighting of the group factor. For example, if the calculated score is 10 and the Qualitative weighting is 50%, then the final score for group factor will be calculated as 10 x 0.5 = 5.
- Sum
For Qualitative, this formula adds up the qualitative scores in an assessment instance. The scores are contributed by scores of manual factors that comprise a group factor and have factor contribution as either Quantitative or Both.
- Minimum
For Qualitative, this formula takes the minimum of qualitative scores in an assessment instance. The scores are contributed by scores of manual factors that comprise a group factor and have factor contribution as either Quantitative or Both.
- Maximum
For Qualitative, this formula takes the maximum of qualitative scores in an assessment instance. The scores are contributed by scores corresponding to the factors that a comprise a group factor and have factor contribution of either Qualitative or Both.
- Average
For Qualitative, this formula takes the average of qualitative scores in an assessment instance. The scores are contributed by scores corresponding to the factors that a comprise a group factor and have factor contribution of either Qualitative or Both.
- Product
For Qualitative, this formula multiplies qualitative scores in an assessment instance. The scores are contributed by scores corresponding to the factors that a comprise a group factor and have factor contribution of either Qualitative or Both.
- Weighted average
For Qualitative, this formula divides the sum of qualitative scores in an assessment instance by the sum of weights. The scores are contributed by scores corresponding to the factors that a comprise a group factor and have factor contribution of either Qualitative or Both.
