Summary of Exploring Flow summarization
Flow summarization leverages generative AI to automatically describe the purpose and actions of flows and subflows within ServiceNow. This feature is designed to enhance collaboration by clearly communicating what a flow or subflow does, while reducing the manual effort typically required to document these automation processes.

Activation and Setup
The flow summarization capability is provided through the Now Assist for Creator (snnowcreator) application, which can be installed from the ServiceNow Store. AI model providers supported include Now LLM Service, Now LLM Long Term Stable models (LTS), Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude on AWS. Administrators can configure available AI options via the AI Control Tower and set skill-level preferences in the Now Assist Admin console.
Using Flow and Subflow Summaries
- Summaries can be generated or viewed from the More Actions menu within flow or subflow records.
- Flows or subflows without prior summaries display a Summarize button, enabling new summary generation.
- Previously generated summaries show their creation dates and can be regenerated as needed.
Considerations and Limitations
This AI-driven feature relies on machine learning models that may not always produce fully accurate, complete, or appropriate summaries. ServiceNow recommends customers perform thorough testing and human review of AI-generated outputs before relying on them for decision-making, especially in sensitive domains such as healthcare, finance, legal, or security. Users must adhere to ServiceNow’s AI Acceptable Use Policy when utilizing this feature.

AI limitations
This application uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, which are rapidly evolving fields of study that generate predictions based on patterns in data. As a result, this application may not always produce accurate, complete, or appropriate information. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that this application has been fully trained or tested for your use case. To mitigate these issues, it is your responsibility to test and evaluate your use of this application for accuracy, harm, and appropriateness for your use case, employ human oversight of output, and refrain from relying solely on AI-generated outputs for decision-making purposes. This is especially important if you choose to deploy this application in areas with consequential impacts such as healthcare, finance, legal, employment, security, or infrastructure. You agree to abide by ServiceNow’s AI Acceptable Use Policy, which may be updated by ServiceNow.
