Conduct a safety risk assessment

  • Conduct a safety risk assessment to identify and manage potential hazards and risks, and to ensure the safety of your employees and the public.

    Before you begin

    Role required: sn_hs_rm.risk_assessment_manager or sn_hs_rm.risk_assessment_writer

    Procedure

    1. Navigate to All > Health and Safety > Health and Safety Workspace.
    2. Select the risk management icon (Risk assessment icon).
    3. Select the Risk assessment list and then All.
    4. Select New to start a risk assessment.
    5. On the form, fill in the fields.
      Enter details such as who is at risk, who is responsible for controls, who reviews, and who approves this risk assessment?

    6. Optional: If necessary, attach an image about the risk using the add attachments icon (Add attachment icon.).
    7. Select Save.
      The Risks and Controls and Risk actions tabs appear for this risk assessment.
    8. List any identified hazards and choose their controls in the Risks and Controls tab.
      Create a Risk and Controls record for each identified hazard. For more information, see Add a risk and its control measures for a safety risk assessment.
    9. If applicable, assign actions in the Risk actions tab.

    Result

    The overall level of risk, both before and after controls, is based on the severity and likelihood of each hazard that is listed in the Risks and Controls tab. It is determined based on the highest identified risk from the risks and controls list.​ The computed risk levels appear in the Risk before controls and Risk after controls fields in the risk assessment's form header.

    What to do next

    After the risk assessment is complete, assign a reviewer and approver for it, if necessary. Only a user with the Risk assessment approver [sn_hs_rm.risk_assessment_approver] role can be assigned as an approver.
