  • Exercises are used to provide continuous testing and improving of continuity plans. You can use the exercises to finalize your business continuity plan and improve its effectiveness and usability in an actual crisis event. You can manage your exercises in BCM UIB Workspace.

Steps involved in creating an exercise

Typically, the following steps are involved in creating an exercise:
    • The BCM program manager creates an exercise either from the Home page or the Exercises record page in the List view of the BCM UIB Workspace.
    • The BCM program manager adds additional details for the exercise such as an asset, plan, and event task.
    • The BCM program manager submits the event task related to the exercise for an approval.
    • The assigned BCM program manager reviews the details on the event task and approves the exercise.
    • The exercise is moved to the Approved state. An approved exercise is moved to the Archived state later.
    • The BCM program manager can generate the PDF of the details and save a copy for reference.

    Types of exercises

The BCM application creates the following types of exercises:

    • Functional
    • Simulation
    • Tabletop
    • Walkthrough

Technically, all exercises are treated the same way. However, only Functional exercises automatically generate tasks, while Simulation, Tabletop, and Walkthrough exercises do not have any technical differences in their implementation.
