Summary of View Business Application Details
This guide explains how ServiceNow's Digital Portfolio Management (DPM) enables you to view comprehensive details about business applications that impact your solutions. The business application lifecycle is presented across several tabs—Plan, Build, Run, Risk, and Info—each providing targeted information to help manage and assess your applications effectively.
Visibility of the tabs and data depends on your organization's configuration and licensing. Additionally, the presence of the DevOps system property influences the data available on the Build and Run tabs.
Key Features
- Status and Lifecycle: Easily identify the status of business applications, including alerts when applications are retired, with lifecycle stages clearly indicated.
- Plan Tab: Access roadmap and backlog details, along with summary cards showing ideas, approved demands, upcoming projects, and planned epics. Demands can be viewed and created directly.
- Build Tab (without DevOps enabled): View project statuses through interactive donut and bar graphs, track active projects, epics, stories, sprints, releases, and changes by status and overdue timelines.
- Build Tab (with DevOps enabled): Replace epics, stories, sprints, and releases display with DevOps flow and accelerate metrics, including average flow times, bug/story distributions, lead times, and deployment frequencies.
- Run Tab (without DevOps enabled): Monitor business application performance with KPIs such as availability, SLA breaches, incident counts, problems, and changes, including application service breakdowns.
- Run Tab (with DevOps enabled): Includes all standard KPIs plus DevOps accelerate metrics like mean time to restore and change failure rates for deeper operational insights.
- Risk Tab: Review governance, risk, and compliance data with risk ratings, compliance summaries, engagement counts, issues, tasks, and technology lifecycle risks (requires Technology Portfolio Management plugin).
- Info Tab: Provides read-only general information about the business application such as descriptions, taxonomy, status, portfolios, related business capabilities and application services, and contract details.
- Needs Attention Panel: Features icons to flag applications requiring attention, view contacts, and manage attachments for efficient record keeping.
Practical Considerations for ServiceNow Customers
- Access to DPM data and tabs depends on your product license, organizational configurations, and enabled plugins (e.g., DevOps system property, Technology Portfolio Management).
- Admins can configure visibility of tabs to align with organizational workflows, ensuring relevant information is presented to users.
- Interactive visualizations on the Build and Run tabs help track project health, change management, and application performance in real time.
- Integration with DevOps metrics provides advanced insights into software delivery and operational efficiency when enabled.
- Compliance and risk management features help maintain governance standards and identify areas needing remediation.
- The Info tab consolidates essential application metadata for quick reference without editing capabilities, supporting consistent data governance.

View information about business applications that may impact your solutions. Each Digital Portfolio Management (DPM) page presents the business application life-cycle phase information in tabs — Plan, Build, Run, Risk, and Info.
Status of business applications
When viewing the business application details in DPM, the Status of each item is listed on the workspace view and on the list view.
Business application information is displayed in DPM via the Plan, Build, Run, Risk, and Info tabs. If your organization opts to inactivate one or more of the tabs, then the inactivated tabs aren't visible to you. For example, if your organization doesn't work on planning activities and they inactivate the Plan tab, then the Plan tab isn't visible for you. For more information on how Admins can hide or show tabs, see Configure the Digital Portfolio Management experience.
