Onboarding for Discovery
The onboarding experience adapts based on your configuration status:
- Before creating an IP or cloud-based Discovery schedule, an Onboarding for Discovery section guides you to the ITOM Configuration Console.
- After schedule creation, a progress indicator tracks configuration task completion with links to continue setup.
- Once configuration is complete, a persistent link to the ITOM Configuration Console remains available for easy access.
Note: The ITOM Configuration Console is available starting from Zurich Patch 8 or later.
Quick overview
This section provides real-time data counts and status indicators to help quickly assess Discovery health and uncover potential issues:
- Active schedules: Shows the total number of active IP-based and Cloud Discovery schedules; clicking navigates to the Schedules page for detailed viewing.
- Schedules with anomalies: Displays the count of schedules with detected anomalies when anomaly detection is enabled; links to detailed diagnostics.
- Data visualizations can be refreshed manually, and the time scale for counts is configurable in the Settings page.
Monitoring and Error Management
- Discovery Operations Monitor: Provides a dashboard to monitor performance metrics such as transactions, sensor jobs, MID Server load, and probe processing times.
- Top discovery errors: Lists the most critical active Discovery errors, showing error details including severity, category, and occurrence count. Selecting an error leads to root cause analysis and remediation guidance.
- Discovery tuning advice: Offers automated suggestions for tuning Discovery and MID Server settings based on instance scans, prioritized by criticality, with direct links to detailed tuning checks.
Quick Discovery
Enables on-demand discovery of devices outside scheduled runs by entering:
- Single IP address
- Comma-separated list of IP addresses
- IP network or address range
You can select a specific MID Server or cluster or allow Discovery to select the MID Server automatically.
ITOM Visibility Apps
The workspace integrates with additional ITOM Visibility applications to extend functionality. Users can view installed and available apps with options to update (admin role required). Note that pricing and licensing details vary and are not provided in this interface.
Learnings and Support
Access to the ITOM Visibility Knowledge Base offers guidance on managing Discovery and resolving errors through articles, blogs, and video tutorials. To use video content, ITOM Content Service version 1.2.8 must be installed, and a specific system property may require updating to avoid video playback errors.
The Discovery Admin Workspace Home page features tools to help you identify and address the most critical discovery errors.
Onboarding for Discovery
After you create a schedule, the Onboarding for Discovery section is replaced by an Onboard Discovery progress indicator. This indicator displays the number of completed configuration tasks. Select Continue to resume configuration in the ITOM Configuration Console.
After you complete configuration, the Home page displays an Onboarding for Discovery link as a persistent entry point to the ITOM Configuration Console.
