# Create an alias for a basic authentication credential for Cohesity storage system discovery {#ariaid-title1}

Create an alias and add it to a basic authentication credential to discover Cohesity storage systems.

## Before you begin

Verify you have a basic authentication account configured with proper permissions. For more information, see the [Verify API permissions](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/diBmefGzub2WHx7R6Sj3CQ#cohesity-storage-system-discovery__cohesity-api-permissions) section in [Cohesity storage system discovery](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/diBmefGzub2WHx7R6Sj3CQ "The Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application uses the Cohesity Storage System pattern to find clusters, nodes, and chassis for the Cohesity DataPlatform. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.").

Role required: discovery_admin

## Procedure

1. Create an alias.
   1. Navigate to Connections \& CredentialsConnection \& Credential Aliases.
   2. Select New.
   3. Enter a unique name for the alias and select Credential for the alias type in the Type field.
   4. Select Submit.

2. Configure a basic authentication credential for the new alias.
   1. Navigate to DiscoveryCredentials.
   2. Select New.
   3. Select Basic Auth Credentials.
   4. Unlock the Credential alias field and select the alias you created.
   5. Configure the rest of the Basic Auth Credentials form fields.
   6. Select Submit.
