## Summary of Monitoring Technology Dashboard for AWS

The AWS Monitoring Technology Dashboard in ServiceNow provides a centralized view to monitor the health and performance of your AWS infrastructure.
It highlights the top five configuration items (CIs) and servers with the highest metric readouts over the past six hours, and displays the 50 most recent active alerts.
This enables quick identification of critical issues and helps prioritize remediation efforts.

Access the dashboard via **All \> AIOps Dashboards \> Monitoring Technology Dashboards** and select **AWS Monitoring**.

## Prerequisites and Setup

* Create an AWS credential following AWS service account setup procedures.
* Configure a Discovery schedule using the created credential to collect cloud resource data.
* Work within the **Agent Client Collector Monitoring** scope in your ServiceNow instance.
* Ensure the **agentclientcollectoradmin** and **dashboardadmin** roles are assigned.
* Enable **Metric Intelligence** on the MID Server for metric-to-CI mapping.
* Activate the **AWS Metrics** , **AWS EC2 Metrics** , and **AWS DynamoDB Metrics** policies.
* Make sure the **clotho plugin** version 1.19.0.10 or later is enabled; follow the upgrade procedure if coming from earlier versions.

## Dashboard Tabs and Features

The dashboard includes multiple tabs to view metrics and alerts from various AWS services:

* **EC2:** Metric data from virtual machines.
* **EC2 Alerts:** Active alerts for EC2 instances.
* **EBS:** Metrics for storage volumes.
* **S3:** Metrics for cloud object storage.
* **RDS:** Metrics for cloud databases.
* **ELB:** Metrics for load balancers.
* **DynamoDB:** Metrics for cloud databases.
* **ECS Cluster:** Metrics for ECS clusters.
* **ECS Service:** Metrics for ECS services.

Users can customize metric grouping by host name, class, operating system, or OS version via the widget's "More options" menu. Hovering over datapoints reveals detailed metric information.

## Filtering and Customization

* Filter metric data by time range using the **Time range** filter.
* Select specific CIs to view metrics using the **Metrics by selected CI** filter.
* Customize individual widgets, such as adjusting the time window for EC2 metrics, and include these custom widgets when building your own dashboards.

## Benefits for ServiceNow Customers

This dashboard empowers ServiceNow customers to proactively monitor AWS environments by providing real-time insights into critical infrastructure components and alerts. It simplifies identifying performance bottlenecks and operational issues, facilitating faster and more informed decision-making in cloud infrastructure management.
With the AWS
Monitoring Technology Dashboard, you can monitor the health and performance of your AWS infrastructure. By using the dashboard, you can identify the configuration items (CIs) and servers with the highest metric readouts, and view the most recent active alerts on those CIs and
servers.

## Overview of the dashboard {#monitor-tech-dashboard-aws__section_mc2_yxq_3wb}

The AWS
Monitoring Technology Dashboard shows the five CIs and servers with the highest metric readouts during the past six hours. The dashboard also shows the 50 most recent active alerts in your AWS environment.

To view the dashboard, navigate to AllAIOps DashboardsMonitoring Technology Dashboards and select AWS Monitoring.

## Using the Monitoring Technology Dashboard for AWS {#monitor-tech-dashboard-aws__section_wzc_2zq_3wb}

Before using the Monitoring Technology Dashboard for AWS:

* Create an AWS credential. For details on creating AWS credentials, see [Set up AWS service accounts](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/UO4WIwvrPVWckI9LeWzMRg "Create and configure cloud service accounts at ServiceNow AI Platform for the corresponding Amazon Web Services (AWS) service accounts.").
* Create a Discovery schedule, using the credential created in the previous step. For details on creating a Discovery schedule, see [Create discovery schedules for cloud resources](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/mvUB4lhtHGGrh93mggIcpw#discovery-manager "Create schedules for discovering cloud resources based on the cloud discovery method you choose; that is, service accounts or IP ranges.").
* Ensure that you're working in the Agent Client Collector Monitoring scope in your ServiceNow instance.
* Ensure that the agent_client_collector_admin and dashboard_admin roles are enabled.
* Enable Metric Intelligence on the MID Server.
* Ensure that the AWS Metrics, AWS EC2 Metrics, and AWS DynamoDB Metrics policies are enabled.

  Enabling these policies
  activates metric to CI mapping.
* Ensure that the clotho plugin version 1.19.0.10 or above is enabled.
* After upgrading from a previous version, follow the procedure described in the [ACC-M Dashboard Filters are not working when upgraded from Tokyo/Utah to Vancouver \[KB1438042\]](https://support.servicenow.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB1438042) article in the NOW Support Knowledge Base.

| Tab | Description |
|-|-|
| EC2 | Displays the metric data from the EC2 (virtual machines) in the AWS environment. |
| EC2 Alerts | Displays the active EC2 (virtual machine) alerts in the AWS environment. |
| EBS | Displays the metric data from the EBS (storage volume) in the AWS environment. |
| S3 | Displays the metric data from the S3 (cloud object storage) in the AWS environment. |
| RDS | Displays the metric data from the RDS (cloud database) in the AWS environment. |
| ELB | Displays the metric data from the ELB (cloud load balancing) in the AWS environment. |
| Dynamo DB | Displays the metric data from the Dynamo DB (cloud database) in the AWS environment. |

{#monitor-tech-dashboard-aws__table_ev3_35m_cwb}

On the right side of widgets displaying a single metric, you can select the More options icon (![More options icon]()) and select Change group by. Select the category you want to view the metric by: Host name, Class, Operating System, or OS Version.

Point to the relevant widget to view a specific datapoint and all of its details in a pop-up window. Select the Alerts tab to view the 50 most recent active alerts in your environment. Alerts help you to
remediate your system by providing the information on problematic behavior.

Use the Time range filter to filter the time range for which you want metric data to display on the dashboard.

Use the Metrics by selected CI filter to select the CIs for which you want to view metrics.

You can customize the appearance of the individual widgets on the AWS
Monitoring Technology Dashboard. For example, you could change the time that the EC2 metrics appear. You can also include the customized widgets when you are creating a custom dashboard. For more information, see [Customize the Monitoring Technology Dashboard](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/RiHmhf2gWXEWKZCh7HF9tw "Customize the Monitoring Technology Dashboard widgets in the Data Visualizations library so your dashboard displays information exactly as you want to see it.").
