# Add a source for a target

After you create a target, you must add a source for the target. The source can be a
metric or a metric definition that contributes to the parent target.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_esg.program_manager

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllOperational Sustainability ManagementOperational Sustainability WorkspaceListsProgram SetupTargets.
2. Select and open the target for which you want to add the source.
3. From either the Metric Definitions or the Metrics related list, select the metric definition or the metric that you want to set as the source for the target.  
4. Select Add as target source.
