Create Outside Counsel records to enable outside counsels to work on a Legal Invention Disclosure request.

## Before you begin

An Outside Firm record must be active. For more information, see [Set up Outside Firms for Legal Invention Disclosure](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/oHXQs4cqRX5txK1wEsiMyA "Configure Outside Firm records to enable the assignment of outside counsels to review and process the patent filing of Legal Invention Disclosure requests.").

Role required: sn_lg_matter.matter_config, sn_lg_matter.matter_fulfiller

## About this task

Setting up an outside counsel can be done either as a fulfiller task or when configuring Legal Invention Disclosure after installation.

## Procedure

1. Access the form to create an Outside Counsel record.

   | Location | Actions |
   | From the Legal Matter module | Navigate to AllLegal MatterOutside Counsel SetupSetup Outside Counsels. |
   | From Legal Counsel Center | 1. Navigate to AllLegal Counsel Center. 2. Select the List icon (![List icon]()) from the primary navigation and in the Outside Counsel section of the Lists menu, select All. {#setup-outside-counsels__ol_dtm_pnd_jzb} |

2. Select New.
3. On the form, fill in the fields.

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Outside Firm | Name of the parent firm for the outside counsel from the lookup which were already added. |
   | Outside Counsel Name | Name of the outside counsel. |
   | Outside Counsel Email | Email address of the outside counsel. |
   | Active | Option to make the Outside Counsel record active. |

4. Save the Outside Counsel record.
   * On the Outside Counsels New record form, select Submit.
   * On the Create New Outside Counsel from the Legal Counsel Center, select Save.
