# Initiate a PIP request

Initiate a PIP request for your employee. Have structured conversations with your
employee on performance improvement, and have an agreed course of action with HR or the
Employee Relations department.

## Before you begin

* Role required: admin
* Install the Human Resources Scoped App: Employee Relations, and Enterprise Onboarding and Transitions plugins.
* Activate the HR Taxonomy, and Document Templates applications from ServiceNow Store.

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllEmployee Center.
2. Click the HR topic.
3. Select the Employee Conduct tile or the Career Development tile.
4. Click the Start a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) request.
5. On the form, fill in the fields:

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Employee name | Employee for whom you are initiating the performance improvement plan. Note: You will be able to select an employee only if you are added as the manager in the HR profile of the employee. |
   | PIP start date | Start date for initiating PIP tasks. |
   | PIP end date | End date for completing PIP tasks. |
   | Reason for PIP | Reason for initiating PIP for the employee. |
   | Areas of improvement | Areas in which you want the employee to perform well. |

6. Click Submit.

## What to do next

A PIP case is created and assigned to an ER agent. The (PIP) life cycle event is
triggered and tasks are auto-initiated for the manager, the employee, and an ER
agent.
