## Summary of Telecom Network Inventory roles

The Telecom Network Inventory application in ServiceNow controls user access through role assignments, enabling or restricting access to specific features, forms, and processes.
Roles are assigned to users or groups via the ServiceNow AI Platform user administration functionality.
This role-based access ensures that only authorized personnel can perform specific operations within the Telecommunications Network Inventory (TNI) application.

## Key Roles and Their Permissions

* **Inventory Admin \[snnicore.inventorytemplateadmin\]**: Grants full create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) access to all TNI functions.
* **Inventory Catalog Manager \[snnicore.telcoinventorycatalogmanager\]**: Allows management (CRUD) of metadata for all network inventory entities and the association between their metadata.
* **Inventory Template Manager \[snnicore.inventorytemplatemanager\]**: Provides CRUD access to network inventory templates, including the default template, for new and existing entities.
* **Inventory Agent \[snnicore.inventoryagent\]**: Read access to all inventory models, capacity metrics, and pack tables; write, update, and delete access to inventory tables; read/write access to templates, change requests, and change tasks. Note: To modify model and model relationship tables, users also need Asset or Inventory User roles.
* **Inventory Number Manager \[sninvnummgmt.inventorynumbermanager\]**: Read/write/delete permissions for all telephone number tables.

## Important Changes Starting June 2026 Release

Standard ServiceNow platform roles will no longer have read access to certain TNI-specific tables to ensure subscription consumption accurately reflects purchased products. Users with these standard roles must be explicitly assigned the appropriate TNI-specific roles to regain access.

* **Affected Tables:** `tnientity` (owned by TNI Core, contains configuration items), and `snnicorelicensingresourcecount` (stores licensing resource count data).
* **Roles Removed Access:** asset, sncmdbuser, cmdbread, itil, usageadmin.
* **Access Removed:** Read and report view permissions.

This change helps customers maintain compliance with licensing terms and ensures that only users with purchased product roles can access specific inventory data.
You can assign roles to control user access to specific features, capabilities, and data in the Telecommunications Network Inventory application. These assigned roles enable or prevent access to specific forms and processes by users with the specified roles only.

You assign roles to users and groups by using the ServiceNow AI Platform user administration feature.

* To assign a role to a user, see [Assign a role to a user](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=t_AssignARoleToAUser&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US).
* To assign a role to a group, see [Assign a role to a group](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=t_AssignRoleToGroup&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US).

The Telecommunications Network Inventory provides the following roles:

| Role | Description |
|-|-|
| Inventory Admin \[sn_ni_core.inventory_template_admin\] | Role that enables a user with create, read, update, and delete access to all Telecommunications Network Inventory application-related functions. |
| Inventory Catalog Manager \[sn_ni_core.telco_inventory_catalog_manager\] | Role that enables a user with create, read, edit, and delete access to the metadata for all network inventory entities. This role also enables the user to associate the metadata of the different entities. |
| Inventory Template Manager \[sn_ni_core.inventory_template_manager\] | Role that enables a user with create, read, edit, and delete access to the network inventory templates for new or existing entities. This role also enables CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations on the default template. |
| Inventory Agent \[sn_ni_core.inventory_agent\] | Role that enables a user with the following permissions: * Read access to all inventory models, capacity metrics, and pack tables. * Write, update, and delete access to the inventory tables. * Read and write access to the template, change request and change task table. {#telecom-inventory-roles__ul_fsl_352_htb} Note: To modify the model and model relationships tables, a user assigned with the Inventory Agent role must also have either the Asset or Inventory User roles. |
| Inventory Number Manager \[sn_inv_num_mgmt.inventory_number_manager\] | Role that enables a user with the following permissions: * Read access to all telephone number tables. * Write, update, and delete access to the telephone number tables. {#telecom-inventory-roles__ul_eyp_sz5_dyb} |

{#telecom-inventory-roles__table_wsf_2d2_htb}

Starting with the Telecommunications Network Inventory June 2026 release, the following standard
ServiceNow platform roles no longer have read access to specific TNI tables. This
change was made to ensure that subscription consumption accurately reflects only the products that a customer has purchased.

Users assigned any of the roles in the following table can no longer read or query the affected tables. You can explicitly grant access by assigning the appropriate TNI-specific roles to those users.
