# Optimizing rack and cabinet usage {#ariaid-title1}

Optimize your rack's capacity by following these guidelines for adding, configuring, and calculating other components using the Telecommunications Network Inventory application.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_ni_core.inventory_admin, sn_ni_core.inventory_agent

## Procedure

1. Navigate to WorkspacesNetwork Inventory Workspace.
2. Select the list icon (![List icon.]()), and then go to InventoryRack.
3. Select a rack from the displayed list.
4. From the rack or cabinet view, perform one of the following actions.

   | Edit rack | To learn more, see [Edit rack](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/a7IZNq0zmVKgRrlUevfApQ "Edit a rack to remove, add, or move the equipment from the selected rack. Organize and upgrade the components within the rack using the Telecommunications Network Inventory application."). |
   | Edit cabinet | To learn more, see [Edit a cabinet](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/9s8Qco4hZVgrz4jM7110Xw "Edit a cabinet to remove, add, or move the equipment from the selected cabinet. Organize and upgrade the components within the cabinet using the Telecommunications Network Inventory application."). |
   | Refresh rack equipment | Select refresh (![Refresh icon]()) icon to see updated equipment of the rack if any changes are performed. |
   | Create equipment | Select (![Options icon]())Create equipment. In the displayed form, fill in the fields. To learn more, see [Create equipment from rack view](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/4n7vic6YIpHTSxA~DADG3g "The Create new equipment form enables you to create an equipment from the selected rack using the Telecommunications Network Inventory application."). |
   | Save | Save the rack or cabinet. |
   | Add packs | Select the more options icon (![More Options icon.]()) and then select Add Packs to capture the attributes for a configuration item (CI) record. To learn more, see [Attribute pack for CI records](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/r1CVtWtkUcxHMb5wbZmfmw "Use an attribute pack to capture the attributes that you define for a configuration item (CI) record in the Telecommunications Network Inventory application and update the attribute values."). |
   | Calculate Capacity | Select and redirect to Capacity Metrics tab to see the updated capacity metrics. |
   | Decommission | Select (![Options icon]())Decommission to decommission this rack. To learn more, see [Decommission an inventory record](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/NdjIDC0FzZ7B1aZwgemWvg "Decommission an inventory record that you want to remove from Telecommunications Network Inventory."). |
   | Delete | Select (![Options icon]())Delete to delete this rack or cabinet. On deleting this rack or cabinet, all related records are deleted. |
