## Basic configuration process overview

The configuration process depends on the features and integrations used in your organization. Here are the basic process steps for configuring Journey designer.

Step 1: Create and manage journey configurations
:
    * [Create and configure Journey designer journeys](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/BqlZ3DWYE7VpenZ9H7OoKg "Create a journey and embed the necessary components from Lifecycle Events and Journey Accelerator.")

      Journey designer configurations are used as templates for creating journeys. Administrators create configurations that are used to trigger journeys.
    * [Manage Journey designer user roles](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/1b_bNSC4SlhowxtxnN~X3g "Manage Journey designer users and the roles that they have.")

      Your roles control access for creating and modifying different features in Journey designer.

Step 2: Configure the Journey
: Create a Journey type to classify the Journey configuration and associate the journey with a Lifecycle Events, Journey Accelerator, or both. [Create and manage Journey types](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/rxhq8lHVa2X_BxeAGESfJw "Create plan types to manage the top-level classification for stages and tasks for Journey types, as well as the header views for users.")
:
    * Lifecycle Events, see [Configure a lifecycle event](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/MxKb2zswucLOdZt57B~85g "Build a lifecycle event and its associated activity sets and activities with the lifecycle event builder.")
      Nota:
      A journey that contains a life-cycle event must have an associated HR Service with the Journey fulfillment type. Either update an existing HR Service case or create a one. See [Configure an HR service for a journey](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/Wefp32AonCYDVJ~EG1cY7w "Create a corresponding HR service so that the lifecycle event can be requested for service as part of an employee's journey.")
    * Journey Accelerator, see [Create a Journey Accelerator plan type](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/d1VeVSM4BtMVCSeHhbL5Fw "Create plan types to manage the top-level classification for stages and tasks in a Journey designer plan.")
    {#jny-dsgnr-configuration__ul_r5h_czz_ztb}

Step 3: Configure Journey permissions
: [Update users' permissions for journeys](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/2RI1FD7Mou_BV6Prvf_XPw "Users in a journey have permissions that enable different levels of access to a journey. Administrators modify user permissions for different types of journeys.")

Step 4: Create and manage Journey designer reports and dashboards
: [Journey designer dashboards and reports](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/woetFsVLpxEW4lv8bflXPw "Dashboards are configurable graphic displays of key metrics, reports, and other widgets on a single screen.")
