Health and Safety Risk Management provides safety incident prevention capabilities in the form of tools such as Risk assessment, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Safety registers, and Inspections and Audits.

* Safety Risk Assessment enables safety teams to conduct hazard risk assessments, to assess risk before and after the controls are applied, using custom risk matrixes. Risk assessments help organizations bolster workplace safety, help prevent incidents, and promote a safety-conscious culture by proactively managing risks tailored to their workplace environments and sectors.
* Job Safety Analysis enables employees (and line managers) to analyze job-specific hazards and identify the relevant control measures for high-risk jobs at their point of work. JSAs are intended to promote worker's hazard awareness and help prevent hazards from causing injury. Safety team can also view and assess the filed JSAs to perform risk assessments.
* Safety Register helps safety teams and line managers to track hazardous materials like chemicals and asbestos, as well as attach Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) that employees can easily access.
* Safety inspections and audits enable safety teams to build and manage safety inspections and audits. Inspections and audits support conformance with regulatory standards while reducing the risks of workplace accidents and associated costs.
* Safety exposure management enables seamless monitoring of exposures across an organization. Safety team and industrial hygienists can perform exposure assessment across different locations and follow up actions to control exposures and keep workers safe.
* The permit-to-work process helps manage formal authorization for workers who request permits to perform tasks involving significant risks. This process promotes safety, effective communication, and accountability and enhances operational efficiency.

## Health and Safety Risk Management workflow {#hs-exploring-risk-mgmt__section_vbw_mwv_c1c}

Safety risk assessment

:   The safety team performs the following activities via the Health and Safety Workspace to conduct their risk assessments.

    * Builds risk matrixes to define levels of risk using likelihood vs severity and define risk tolerances.
    * Conducts risk assessments using the predefined risk matrixes. The chosen matrix evaluates the level of risk for a risk assessment.
    * Assesses risks using risk assessments in their workplace, both pre-and post-control measures. There might be multiple risks identified in a risk assessment each with its own controls. The overall level of risk both before and after controls is based on the highest identified risk from the risks and controls list.
    * Risk assessment also identifies people at risk and people responsible for control of the risk.
    * After a risk assessment is complete, assigns a reviewer and approver and creates recommended actions, if necessary.

Job Safety Analysis

:   It includes the following activities:

    * Safety team manages the hazard and controls lists in the Health and Safety Workspace.
    * Safety team also maintains the job register in the Health and Safety Workspace that pre-identifies hazards and controls for jobs in their organization.
    * Employees submit JSAs in Employee Center or on Now Mobile app. They can select a job or job step to pre-populate hazards and controls, or they can start from scratch with an empty JSA.

Safety registers
:
    * Safety team manages safety registers like chemicals and asbestos in the Health and Safety Workspace. The safety team also attaches Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to safety register records.
    * Employees can search and access these SDSs in the Employee Center or on Now Mobile app.

Safety inspections and audits

:   Safety team members conduct safety inspections and audits at their establishments that involve the following activities:

    * Inspection or audit manager pre-builds smart assessment or surveys and schedules safety inspections or audits in the Health and Safety Workspace.
    * Safety inspector or auditor walks around and conducts surveys through the Employee Center or on Now Mobile app.

      They can also complete the inspection or audit surveys offline on the Mobile Agent app. Surveys completed offline are synchronized once an internet connection is established.
    * Inspection or audit manager reviews the completed surveys, works on the findings and root cause analysis, and devises actions.

Safety exposure management
:
    The Industrial hygienist carries out the following tasks via the Health and Safety Workspace to manage workplace exposures:

    * Defines exposure types and associates them with relevant risk assessments and safety register records.
    * Conducts exposure assessments to determine the affected workers across various locations.
    * Assigns follow-up actions to confirm proper control of exposures and the safety of workers.

Permit-to-work
:   The permit-to-work workflow involves the following activities:

    * Permit requester submits a permit to work request for a high-risk job.
    * Permit approver conducts a detailed evaluation of the task and approves the permit to work request after confirming that all safety standards are met and appropriate training for the employee to perform the task is in place.
    * Permit coordinator oversees regular checks conducted in conformance with permit conditions and supervises the active permit for safety.
