| Role | Tasks and access permissions |
|-|-|
| On-call administrator \[sn_on_call_admin\] | A user with this role can configure all on-call schedule features including its properties and trigger rules. This role contains the following roles: * sn_trigger_table_cfg_read * sn_trigger_table_cfg_write * sn_sow_on_call.sn_on_call_sow_admin * rota_admin {#roles-assigning-oncall__ul_oy3_tl1_n3c} |
| Shift administrator \[rota_admin\] | A user with the rota_admin role can create, read, update, and delete shifts. The rota_admin can create shifts using the [Create new schedule wizard](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/kNURfWU6ufHEPe8pO2WMdQ "Create an On-Call schedule or edit an existing schedule by defining shifts and rosters."), modify shifts and rosters, and maintain coverage and time off on the [Manage shifts from the Calendar view](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/SU3GV3ZxHxqE0ExmlGLJ2g "The Calendar view displays all shifts for a user group for a specified time interval. Use the Calendar view of an On-Call schedule to update or manage shifts."). The rota_admin role contains the platform assignment_rule_admin role. |
| Shift manager \[rota_manager\] | The Shift manager role is for the manager of a group. The purpose of the role is to distinguish a member that has been delegated the role of managing shifts of a group. The role cannot be used to manage all groups on the instance. The role can be delegated to the members of a group. See [Delegating roles](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_DelegateRoles&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US) . A user with the Shift manager role that meets any of the following requirements can manage shifts for their group: * The user is the manager of the group. * The user was delegated the rota_manager role. For information on delegating the shift manager role, see [Delegate the shift manager \[rota_admin\] role](oZ4jA5bR3iEwIihMshDtJw "As a shift manager, you can delegate your role to a member of shift."). For information on role delegation, see [Delegate roles](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_DelegateRoles&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US) . Note: When a user is delegated a role on behalf of a group, the user can manage the shifts only for that group. * The user is configured as a shift manager for a group. For information on configuring group preferences, see [Configure preferences for a user group](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/nO5QgNqiX0699Dv~ggDWyQ "Specify the On-Call preferences for a user group."). {#roles-assigning-oncall__ul_rgs_m22_llb} |
| itil | A user with the itil role can view the [Manage shifts from the Calendar view](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/SU3GV3ZxHxqE0ExmlGLJ2g "The Calendar view displays all shifts for a user group for a specified time interval. Use the Calendar view of an On-Call schedule to update or manage shifts."), on-call commitments on reports, and has general read-only access to their group's shifts. |
| Premium Dashboard user \[rota_prem_dashboard_user\] | Access to the On-Call Premium dashboard. The Premium dashboard displays performance metrics across groups. See [Legacy: Viewing the Performance reports for escalations](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/K5W~2ZJC2eFS3eUSkSfNPQ "The Performance reports enable detailed review of how well escalations are being processed. You have precise control of the data that describes escalation progress using filters like group, priority, level, or escalation category."). |
| DEPRECATED: roster_admin | Warning: Do not use this role for new users. This deprecated legacy role exists only to support customers that still use the role. |
