Event Management is the central hub that ingests events from monitoring tools, applies automation and rules to create prioritized alerts, and uses AI agents to automate triage. It reduces noise, improves availability, and seamlessly integrates with ITSM, CMDB, ITOM, and external monitoring tools — making it a foundational part of the ServiceNow AIOps suite.
Implementation Stages
Follow a phased approach to deploying Event Management, starting with a single high-value service and progressively moving through four stages — getting basic alert response working, reducing alert noise, reducing mean time to resolve (MTTR), and shifting from reactive to proactive operations — ensuring measurable value at every step.
Should I Wait for CMDB
Deploy Event Management and improve your CMDB in parallel to show value quickly. Modern observability tools already provide useful event metadata. Use Alert Automations to improve alert deduplication and grouping without waiting for full CMDB population. Then you can strengthen results by adding Discovery and Service Mapping over time to improve CI/service context.
Prerequisites for Setup
Before implementation, gather credentials for your monitoring tools and submit any necessary access requests to Network and Security teams to avoid delays. If your setup requires pull-based integrations, Agent Client Collector, or Health Log Analytics, a MID Server will also need to be deployed and configured in advance.
