Amazon MWAA Environment pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Amazon MWAA Environment pattern-based discovery
Amazon MWAA Environment pattern-based discovery in ServiceNow uses Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns to identify AWS Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA) environments within your cloud infrastructure. This process populates configuration data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables, enabling effective tracking and management of your MWAA resources.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The MWAA discovery pattern is disabled by default and must be enabled to function. From Visibility Content version 6.28.0 onward, pattern activation or deactivation is not treated as a customization, ensuring patterns stay updated after upgrades.
- AWS Discovery Prerequisites: Ensure AWS discovery prerequisites are met, including removal of relevant resources from the Resource Inclusion List [sacloudinventoryresourcewhitelist] to avoid duplicate discovery.
- GovCloud Support: Discovery supports AWS GovCloud (US) accounts by requiring datacenter URL configuration during AWS service account setup.
- Data Population: The pattern populates data into:
- Non-CMDB tables: Stores detailed MWAA environment data such as environment name, Airflow version, and ARN in the cmdbawsmanagedworkflowsforapacheairflowenvironment table.
- CMDB tables: Stores key configuration items in the cmdbcicloudappserver table, including install and operational status, type, and ARN.
- CI Relationships: The pattern establishes relationships linking MWAA environments to their hosting AWS datacenters and cloud app servers, supporting comprehensive service mapping.
- AWS Tag Discovery: Tags from AWS MWAA environments are collected and stored in the cmdbkeyvalue table, capturing key-value pairs for enhanced resource categorization.
Practical Application for ServiceNow Customers
By enabling and configuring the Amazon MWAA Environment discovery pattern, customers can automatically detect and map Apache Airflow environments running in AWS within their ServiceNow CMDB. This facilitates improved visibility, operational status tracking, and management of MWAA resources. Proper configuration—including meeting AWS discovery prerequisites, managing resource inclusion lists, and setting discovery schedules for GovCloud—is essential to ensure accurate and non-duplicative data collection. The populated data and relationships support effective cloud service management and integration with broader AWS resource inventories.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds AWS services on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in AWS discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see AWS Resource Inventory discovery with Patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Amazon AWS - Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow Environment - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB AWS tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
