Create a business continuity plan from a plan template in BCM UIB Workspace so that the loss scenarios, recovery strategies, and recovery tasks defined on the template are generated automatically.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_bcp.plan_contributor or sn_bcp.plan_manager

## About this task

A plan template can reference recovery strategy templates, task template groups, and task templates at the plan, loss scenario, and recovery strategy levels. When you create a plan from such a template, the system
automatically creates the documentation, loss scenarios, recovery strategies, and recovery tasks.

For information on building a plan template that pre-populates these records, see [Configure the business continuity plan template](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/Xzc3X_PdQGdEkt1d3RqJ1w "Configure the business continuity plan template in the Business Continuity Management application for your business. You can use the plan template to recover a specific primary element such as Employees or Web Servers. Similarly, you can create a plan template for different plan authoring types such as documentation, loss scenarios, and recovery tasks.") and [Configuring plan template](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/otTGtFfUupEae5z8tykBNA "As a BCP plan manager, you can create a business continuity plan that can be used for your respective business units during a disruptive event. The Business Continuity Management application provides pre-configured business continuity plan templates. You can streamline the process of a plan creation by using pre-configured plan templates. You can also create a plan template for your business requirement.").

## Procedure

1. Navigate to WorkspacesBusiness Continuity WorkspacePlanning in the list view and select New.
2. On the Details tab of the Create New Plan form, select a plan template in the Template field.
The template determines which loss scenarios, recovery strategies, task template groups, and task templates are generated for the plan.
3. Enter a name for the plan and fill in the remaining required fields.
For more information on the fields, see [Create Plan form](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/6HKKU8vh18Zz91iIavREaA "Use the Create Plan form in BCM UIB Workspace to add the details about the business continuity plan (BCP).").
4. Select Save.
The progress tracker on the plan record shows the creation status while the system generates the documentation, loss scenarios, recovery strategies, and recovery tasks from the template.

5. After the progress tracker completes, review the generated records on the plan tabs.
The Loss scenarios tab lists the loss scenarios from the template. Each loss scenario contains the recovery strategies and recovery tasks defined for it, and each recovery strategy contains the recovery tasks added at the recovery strategy level. Task dependencies defined inside a task template group are preserved on the created tasks.

## Result

The plan is created in the Draft state with the loss scenarios, recovery strategies, and recovery tasks generated at each level. You can add more records or apply additional task template groups from the Recovery tasks tab. For more information, see [Add recovery tasks](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/CvSDnrh2xXv9gsIDBIz41Q "Add a recovery task as part of the planned recovery strategy. You can add one or more recovery tasks for a loss scenario and those recovery tasks are displayed in the loss scenario itself. Automate the recovery tasks in a plan for a faster recovery.").
