Manage user access to a knowledge base or an article using user criteria diagnostics.
Understand what access users have to a knowledge base or an article and determine which user
criteria define those permissions.
User access to a knowledge base or an article can be restricted based on:

* Domain separation
* Access control list (ACL) rules
* [Knowledge
  workflows](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/SZj7_xuHdnlVADCo9u7Vhg#r_KnowledgeWorkflows "The publishing and retirement processes for a knowledge article are controlled by workflows defined for the knowledge base that the article belongs to.")
* User criteria set for a [knowledge base](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/18Bpf5hjqjam1xnFX8zg7Q "You specify user criteria for a knowledge base to control which users are granted access to read and contribute knowledge articles to that knowledge base.") or an [article](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/YNNdK6Sem0g9AqVmUtloAQ "You specify user criteria for a knowledge article to control which users are granted read access to the knowledge article.")
{#diagnose-knowledge-user-criteria__ul_w54_pn3_cdb}

This feature considers domain separation and user criteria to determine the user access to
knowledge bases and articles.

## Activation information {#diagnose-knowledge-user-criteria__section_sfj_33q_hdb}

The user criteria diagnostics feature is activated with the Knowledge Management v3 plugin
(com.snc.knowledge3). For more information, see [Activate a plugin](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=t_ActivateAPlugin&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US).
Hinweis:
Starting with the Washington DC release, the Knowledge Management v3 homepage (com.snc.knowledge3) is being prepared for deprecation in the future Y release. It is replaced by the Knowledge Management
Service Portal (com.snc.knowledge_serviceportal), which is active by default for customers on Madrid and later releases. For more information about the new experience, see [Knowledge Management Service Portal homepage features](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/643l~2QjRr_EJbS1ukyalQ "The Knowledge Management Service Portal homepage displays knowledge articles organized by knowledge base and category, as well as featured content and popular articles. Learn how to navigate the homepage to search for and find useful and relevant information quickly.").
