# Configure a character counter

# Configure a character counter for journal fields {#ariaid-title1}

Configure a character counter to display the number of remaining characters in a journal field.

## Vorbereitungen

Role required: admin

## Prozedur

1. Navigate to <kbd class="ph userinput">sys_properties.list</kbd>.  
   The entire list of properties in the System Properties \[sys_properties\] table opens.
2. Add a system property named glide.ui.textarea.character_counter.  
   For more information on adding system property, see [Add a system property](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=t_AddAPropertyUsingSysPropsList&version=australia&pubname=australia-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US).
3. Set the Value to true.
4. Select Submit.
