# Configure extra step finding definition {#ariaid-title1}

Configure an extra-step finding definition to view a pattern where routes differ by one additional step.

## Vorbereitungen

Role required: sn_process_mining_analyst, sn_process_mining_power_user, or sn_process_mining_admin

Extra-step finding definition surfaces variants (routes) in the process that differ by only one additional step, which could possibly be automated or eliminated to save time.

## Prozedur

1. Navigate to Improvement opportunity definition page.  
   For information about Improvement opportunity definition page, see [Set improvement opportunities](https://servicenow-prod.fluidtopics.net/ugNOY98QBCvmJ~EwRTKM_w "Set improvement opportunities to find areas of improvement by which teams could optimize a process. You can either select from a list of rules available to you or set your own rules. Based on the rules set by you, you can view your areas of improvement.").
2. Select Create on the Extra step card.  
   For a particular type of automated finding, you can create a maximum of two automated findings.
3. Provide details in the Define section.

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Name | Specify a name for your automated finding definition. |
   | Pattern type | This field is auto-populated. The automated finding definition that you chose to create is displayed here. You can change it if necessary. |
   | Field to detect the pattern on | Select any field from the table on which you want to detect this pattern. The entire finding definition works on this field. |
   | Category | Specify a category to which the automated finding definition belongs. The available options are: * Quality * Automation * Conformance * Performance {#extra-step__ul_crp_tjk_wbc} |
   | Active | Select the field if you want this finding definition to be active. By default, it's selected. |
   | Table | Displays the table name that you have selected. This field is non-editable. |
   | Apply to process/project | Displays the table name that you have selected. This field is non-editable. |
   | Impacted KPIs | Select the KPIs most likely impacted by the findings. Choosing the affected KPIs enables you to assess the business impact. You can view the KPI-related findings in the insights panel of the Process Mining workspace. |

4. Select Configure.  
   The Configure tab is displayed.
5. Fill the details on the form.  
   Default values are provided. You can edit them if needed.

   According to the example, records that meet the following conditions are available as improvement opportunities in the Summary and insights page:
   * The variant (route) must have a minimum of 10 records.
   * The variant (route) must have a minimum of 7 steps (including process start and end).
   * Records for extra step variants (routes) must be between 20%--100% relative to the regular variant. Variants outside this range are considered to have significantly fewer or more records than the regular variant.
   * The extra step variants (routes) will always be included if the records are more than 100, regardless of the percentage of records relative to the regular variant.
   * A maximum of 10 improvement opportunities will be generated in the Summary and Insights page.

6. Select Save and exit.
