# Summarize a record through chat {#ariaid-title1}

Quickly understand the contents of a record through a conversation with ServiceNow Otto.

## Before you begin

Role required: admin

Verify that the custom app record summarization skill is activated and configured. The following procedure describes how to summarize a record through chat in the ServiceNow Otto panel. You can also summarize a record in-product within Core UI or a custom workspace. ## Procedure

1. Open the ServiceNow Otto panel by selecting the ServiceNow Otto icon (![]()).
2. In the ServiceNow Otto panel, select Summarize a record or enter <kbd class="ph userinput">summarize a record</kbd>.
3. Enter the record number for the record that you want to summarize.
4. Select the Enter key.  
   Note:  
   Generating and displaying the summary may take several seconds.
5. **Optional:** When you're finished summarizing a record, you can copy the summary or provide feedback about the summary.

   | Option | Procedure |
   | Provide feedback about the summary | If you think that the summary was helpful, select the helpful icon (![Helpful icon.]()). If you think that the summary wasn't helpful, select the not helpful icon (![Not helpful icon.]()). Note: This feedback improves the generative AI model and can help to improve future versions of this skill. |
   | Copy the record summary | If you want to reuse the summary, select the copy to clipboard icon (![Copy to clipboard icon.]()). |
